Chartres Accommodation

I stayed just outside of Chartres in a gite, in this village.
This is the main house where the owners live - facing into the yard.  The wall of the gite is visible on the right.
This is the front door of the gite (I took this photo with my back to the house in the above photo).
The back of the gite opens onto a terrace (you can just see main main house peeking through on the left of the photo).
Yes, you are seeing thatched roofs.  In  fact, they were repairing the roof of the main house while I was there.  This is the main house - these walls facing the street have few windows.  On the left you can see the new thatch, in the middle, the thatch is being taken off, on the right you can see the old dark thatch.
This contraption hooks into the thatch, and the thatcher kneels on the little platform to do his work.
Inside the gite is a large open area - dining room, lounge room and kitchen.
On the right are the stairs leading to the mezzanine study, the bedroom and bathroom.
This is the bedroom.  On the left you can just see an open window - one of 2 dormer windows.  Look at those wonderful beams.  And look how they are held together.
A little way down the road, the street, and the village, end.  Looking across the fields you can see something in the distance.
